THE WEST VALLEY ACTION NETWORKAbout WVAN | Background Materials | Campaigns and Correspondence In 2010 the US Department of Energy (DOE) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) decided partially clean up the West Valley site basically removing the reprocessing building and related buildings, waste lagoons and the plume of strontium and other radioactive contaminants migrating from the site. They agreed to do STUDIES on how much cleanup they will do after this PHASE 1 activity. They set up a SCIENCE PANEL which they refer to as the ISP to advise them and the teams they hire to carry out the studies.
